For thousands of years, getting there meant traveling
by foot. Walking at a average of three miles per hour. Slow by today’s standards. Then we began to use horses. Eventually
boats and trains starting getting us there even faster. Automobiles and airplanes have further accelerated these trips so
that we have come to expect to get there with rapidity.
But
with our rush in getting there, have we forgotten that it is not about the destination, it is about the journey. Let’s
take the time it takes in getting there and enjoy being here.
This
evening, we are celebrating through dance the various types of transportation that have been getting us there through the
generations. How did we get here? By enjoying our year long journey of exploration of the different ways to get there through
dance. A slow and steady process that brings us back to the rhythmic roots of movement and walking.
So please enjoy our journey. Whatever our endeavors may be, they always starts the same
way…by taking the first step, “le premier pas”.
